Delays as traffic deadlocked on major road

Commuter chaos has erupted on a major Sydney road following a multi-vehicle crash, with two drivers rushed to hospital.
A multi-vehicle crash caused a standstill of northbound traffic on the M1 Pacific Motorway at Mount Kuring-Gai on Thursday evening.
All northbound lanes of the motorway were closed due to the crash, which involved four vehicles and a truck at 6.05pm.
NSW Police said two drivers have since been taken to hospital.
“On arrival, officers attached to Ku-Ring-Gai Police Area Command found that five vehicles were involved,” NSW Police said in a statement.
“The male driver of a blue sedan has been airlifted to hospital in a serious but stable condition.
“The female driver of a black sedan was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics and taken to hospital in a stable condition.”
Both drivers are set to undergo mandatory testing.
The occupants of the other vehicles were assessed at the scene by paramedics but did not require further treatment.
Police have established a crime scene and commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash.
Anyone with information or dashcam footage is being urged to contact police.
Live Traffic NSW is urging drivers to avoid the area.
Drivers on the motorway are slowly being diverted at Kuring-gai Chase Rd.
Images from social media show deadlocked traffic stopped in multiple lanes on the road.
The lane closures and crash have backed traffic up all the way to Wahroonga.
Traffic chaos has ensued on other Sydney roads on Thursday, with a truck crash closing all lanes on the M7 earlier in the day.
Northbound lanes of the M7 were closed due to another truck crash at Cecil Park in Sydney’s west about 4pm.
Southbound traffic was also heavy on the road, authorities were urging drivers to avoid the area.
Closures were lifted about 6.30pm but traffic remained heavy with motorists being told to use other roads.
