Wild result from ‘$1000 Lotto win’

Written by on July 15, 2024

A retired couple have revealed their “oh my god” moment after thinking they had won $1000 in the Saturday Gold Lotto, and finding out the reality was much different.

The woman had checked her ticket on Monday morning, but only glanced at the first four numbers before telling her partner they had won $1008.

She said the pair normally only win about $15, so she got her partner to check the ticket on the computer.

“He looked at the screen and said, ‘It’s not $1008’ and I said, ‘Yes, it is!’ and then he said, “It’s $1 million’.”

“It was an ‘oh my god’ moment,” she said.

The Gold Coast couple were one of five division one winners in Saturday’s draw, taking home just over $1 million. They plan to renovate their home with the prize money.

“I still can’t believe it,” the winning woman exclaimed.

“We’re retired and there’s a lot of work we’d love to do on our home – especially after the Christmas Day storms that swept through here. It’s come at a lovely time.

“We’re feeling very blessed.”

The winning ticket was sold at News Extra Coomera, with manager Ching Lee saying she was thrilled to see another big win in the region.

“Unbelievable! When I first saw it on the terminal, I couldn’t believe it,” she said.

“Customers will be as excited as we are.

“During the past 10 years, we’ve sold five division one wins from this store and two top prize-winning Instant Scratch-Its.

“Congratulations to our winner, I hope the win will change your life.”

Across Australia, there were five division one winning entries in Saturday Gold Lotto draw 4485 – two in Queensland and one each in New South Wales, Victoria and Western Australia.

In 2023, Saturday Gold Lotto created 176 millionaires across Australia.
