A tradie who died in a horror workplace accident last month has been pictured for the first time.
Guy Burchett, 71, fell around five metres through a metal roof when he was working at a vacant factory in Malaga, Perth, on October 22.
The beloved roof plumber was critically injured and died at the scene, 7News reports.
Now it has tragically be revealed that Mr Burchett’s wife Viv had been battling cancer for a decade.
She is managing her treatment so she can attend his funeral.
Mr Burchett was a founding and lifelong member of the Success-based Southern Lions rugby team.
His death has sent shockwaves through WA’s local rugby community.
In an online tribute Mr Burchett’s family said: “Guy was a genuinely great man – a man who lived for his family, who had a playful sense of humour, a smile and laugh that lit up a room, and a heart of pure gold.
“He touched many lives throughout his years and would open his door and welcome you into his home at every opportunity. He was by far one of the good ones.”
Southern Lions coach and Mr Burchett’s long-time friend Michael Penhaligon said he was “an inspiration”.
“Guy was not just a player but a true embodiment of rugby spirit. He always found time to assist with coaching, managing, and supporting the club in any way possible,” he said.
“Beyond his love for the game, Guy was a constant source of laughter and camaraderie, known for his lighthearted digs and playful humour.
“Yet, beneath that lively exterior was a man who deeply cared for his friends, teammates, and the rugby community he held dear.
“Our thoughts and prayers go out to Viv and their family during this very difficult time.”
WorkSafe has launched an investigation into Mr Burchett’s death.
Investigators will examine the tragedy “with a view to ensuring compliance and preventing future incidents of a similar nature”.
