Mr Moon is no longer working at the school while the matter is before the courts.

Parents were informed a staff member had been charged in a letter written sent out by Plumpton High School principal Tim Lloyd on Thursday.

Mr Lloyd said counselling was available for students and provided information on further support services, including Kids Helpline.

A NSW Department of Education spokesperson said the department “does not tolerate employees engaging in misconduct, especially towards students”.

“The care and protection of students are the department’s highest priorities,” the spokesperson told news.com.au in a statement.

“The matter has been referred to the department’s Professional and Ethical Standards Directorate. PES trained child protection investigators will work closely with NSW Police to ensure the safety and welfare of students.

“The employee is not currently working in schools and will be unable to do so for the duration of any police or criminal matter.
