Sad detail after Labor star found dead

The mother of rising political star Sarah Carter, who was found dead in her Melbourne home on Tuesday, has spoken for the first time since her daughter’s sudden death.
Gaynor Morris revealed her daughter was set to fly to Europe with her partner Nikhil Roy on Tuesday, but never made it to the airport.
Carter, 45, was treated by emergency services at her home in Maribyrnong at 3.45pm on Tuesday but could not be saved.
“She hadn’t made it to the airport to meet him for their holiday together,” Morris told the Herald Sun.
“He (Roy) went and checked on her and he literally found her dead.
“No-one knows anything different unfortunately.”
Carter’s cause of death is not yet known. Victoria police confirmed her death was not being treated as suspicious. A report is being prepared for the coroner.
The couple regularly travelled together, sharing pictures from Singapore and Vanuatu on social media earlier this year.
Carter’s mother said he was “absolutely heartbroken”.
“I think she sets a great example for everybody and there’s a lot of people that will miss her. I am very proud,” she added.
Carter was a councillor on Maribyrnong Council, in Melbourne’s west, which covers suburbs including Footscray, Yarraville and Tottenham as well as Maribyrnong itself.
Carter was first elected to office in 2008 and had served as mayor of Maribyrnong three times – the first woman to do so.
She was admired within Labor circles both in Melbourne and Canberra and some believed her political career could go well beyond local council boundaries.
Former Labor leader and current minister Bill Shorten paid tribute to Carter and said she was a “remarkable” leader.
“Children’s champion, community leader, Labor through and through. The best of us,” he wrote.
“My thoughts are with her family and loved ones in this difficult time.”
Labor MP Tim Watts said Ms Carter’s “energy was limitless”.
