A Melbourne woman who was on her way home from a nursing shift has broken town in tears while talking about her experience with a “ruthless” Myki inspector.
Visibly upset by the ordeal, Emma Jane took her complaint to TikTok, which has now been viewed more than 25,000 times.
She claims a tram inspector approached her after she tapped on with a concession card and interrogated her for not carrying her student identification.
The woman tried to explain to the inspector she studied online and had not yet picked up her student identification from the university.
But the man sat down next to her and said, “I am going to have to report you.”
“But I have paid the … Myki, I have paid for it,” she said.
The woman started crying because she was about to be fined $300 despite paying for her fare, explaining the inspector made her feel like she was about to go to jail.
“They just don’t even care,” she said.
“I am crying and having a panic attack because it is scary they all come around you.”
The post has received hundreds of comments from other people in Melbourne who supported the university student.
“Myki inspectors are the most heartless ugliest ogres ever I’m so sorry I do not know what … is wrong with them,” one person responded.
“Nurses should have free public transport,” another person said.
“In Adelaide, we have free metro transport for nurses. You should dispute it’s so unfair, sorry you had to go through that,” one user responded.
One person said: “If you’re using a concession Myki, it’s your responsibility to have the correct documentation to support it. This is totally valid.”
“I know the feeling – I was a student and didn’t have proof of concession. Tried to contest the $477 fine but they didn’t let me. That was my entire paycheck for the week,” another said.
The Department of Transport have been contacted for comment.
