Pregnant Brittany Higgins devastated after close family member dies

Written by on August 9, 2024

Brittany Higgins has revealed she has lost a close family member weeks after announcing she was pregnant with her first child.

Ms Higgins, who married long-term partner David Sharaz in June, took to Instagram to share that her grandmother had passed away.

“Processing the loss of the strongest woman I have ever known. I love and already miss you grandma x.”

Ms Higgins’ mother Kelly replied to the post with a heartfelt message.

“She loved you, and was so proud of you,” she wrote.

“It was so special she got to celebrate your wedding and be excited about the news of great-grandchild. She was a remarkable woman who taught us truth strength. I love you beautiful.”

Ms Higgins moved to France with Mr Sharaz in December but they have now been forced to sell their idyllic French chateau to pay for legal fees.

The couple are locked in a bitter legal battle with Senator Linda Reynolds who is suing the couple for defamation.

Mr Sharaz, 33, hasn’t worked full-time since shortly after Ms Higgins received a $2.4 million payout from the government in 2022.

He left his job in radio by mutual agreement after his social media posts sparked controversy and Senator Reynolds announced she was suing him for comments on X formerly known as Twitter.

He is facing the possibility of personal bankruptcy after confirming he will not fight senator Reynolds claim of defamation over his own social media posts on X.

If she loses, Ms Higgins could have to pay not only her own legal fees but those of her former employer, Senator Reynolds, after she alleged she was raped in her ministerial office in 2019.

Bruce Lehrmann has always maintained his innocence and was never convicted after the rape charge against him was dropped.

Last year the Federal Court found, on the civil standard of balance of probabilities, that Mr Lehrmann did rape Ms Higgins. He is appealing that decision.
