New details have emerged about the upcoming royal visit by King Charles III and Queen Camilla to Sydney as part of their historic Australian tour.
The royal couple will fly into Sydney next Friday, which will be the King’s 15th visit to Australia but his first since becoming monarch.
It is also his first overseas visit since taking the throne following the death of his mother Queen Elizabeth II two years ago.
The short visit to Canberra and Sydney follows his cancer diagnosis earlier this year.
The couple will arrive in Australia on Friday October 18, before spending a few days in Sydney and Canberra.
The public is being encouraged to meet the royals when they visit Sydney Opera House on Tuesday October 22, which will be followed by a Fleet Review and a flyover Sydney Harbour by the Australian Defence Force.
The King and Queen will also join NSW Premier Chris Minns for a community BBQ in Parramatta in Tuesday morning “in celebration of regional” NSW and showcasing “the cultural diversity of modern Australia”.
NSW Premier Chris Minns said the BBQ would “showcase the rich culinary and cultural diversity, where they will also meet with a range of community organisations and outstanding Australians”.
During the events, the royals will be joined by Governor-General Sam Mostyn, chiefs of the ADF and navy, and Australians of the Year Professor Georgina Long and Professor Richard Scolyer.
The book loving Queen will also visit “a Sydney library” to meet those participating in a series of writing workshops, “esteemed authors”, and recipients of the Queen’s Commonwealth Essay Competition.
The couple will also visit Canberra on Monday October 21 for a reception with political and community leaders, and Australians who have excelled in the fields of health, arts, culture and sport.
They will also lay a wreath at the Australian War Memorial and visit the Australian National Botanic Gardens where they will meet with staff and volunteers to discuss impacts of climate change.
