Jake and Callum Robinson have been commemorated by their loved ones in a paddle out off a beach in WA, almost two months after the brothers were killed alongside their friend while on a surfing trip together in Mexico.
Callum, 33, Jake, 31, and their American friend Jack Carter Rhoad, 30, were killed after they went missing in late April while they were camping on a surf trip in Baja California.
Mexican police allege the three men were shot in the head by locals attempting to steal the tyres from their pick-up truck.
Their bodies were found at the bottom of a well, a short distance from the campsite.
The memorial paddle took place on Saturday afternoon at Sorrento Beach north of Perth, close to Sacred Heart College where the brothers attended school and where a memorial service was held for them last Saturday.
Hundreds attended the paddle out, paddling into the ocean on boards or boats before forming a circle and raising their oars in the air, ABC reports.
In a post to its Facebook account, the Sorrento Surf Lifesaving Club said it, alongside Surf Lifesaving WA, Surfing WA and the Indian Ocean Paddlers and Scarboro Surf Life Saving Club would participate in the memorial paddle out.
“It will provide these communities with an opportunity to come together to commemorate and remember these two wonderful boys and show their support for their family,” the post read.
“WA surfers, surf life savers and ocean paddlers will all come together as one group as they paddle out to form a circle and remember Callum and Jake.”
The paddle out comes a week after the much-loved brothers were farewelled by friends and family at a private memorial service at Sacred Heart College in Sorrento.
Childhood friends, as well as Jake and Callum’s parents Debra and Martin Robinson paid tribute to their sons in emotional speeches to the 800 grieving friends and family watching the service, which was also live streamed, 7News reports.
“We loved that Jake was curious, kind and happy and never judgmental,” Ms Robinson said.
“Callum always made a conscious decision to wake up and be positive every day. He saw so much fun in life,
“We miss you beyond description, Callum and Jakey boy, please shine on us.”
Ms Robinson said her sons loved life and followed their dreams.
