If there’s a single symbol that stands for Vogue American Express Fashion’s Night Out (VAEFNO)’s intrinsic link to Australian design, it’s the Vogue x Bassike T-shirt.
Launched to platform our own extraordinary homegrown talents, VAEFNO has remained at the forefront of Australian fashion and has brought the best of it to the local and international stage.
The limited-edition T-shirt — the perfect metaphor for our country’s effortlessly effortful approach to dressing—remains its emblem.
“This collaboration is always a source of pride and excitement,” shares Deborah Sams, co- founder and creative director of Bassike, of the always-anticipated piece, adding that “the strength of the Vogue brand, combined with Bassike’s commitment to responsible business, truly represents the Australian fashion industry and its extended community.”
Naturally, this notion extends to the piece’s fabrication which, as always, is made up of the label’s soft organic cotton jersey its customers have come to know and love.
Making its return in 2024 in two colourways—salt blue and a true black—each design drew inspiration from both the timeless Bassike aesthetic as well as the mood of its current collection.
“This year’s T-shirt was inspired by both Bassike’s core and seasonal styles,” Sams explains of the design, which you can shop now right here!
“The salt blue, drawn from our current spring/summer collection, brings a fresh touch to this year’s design, while the black colourway references our core Bassike collection.”
As has become customary in the days leading up to VAEFNO, the Vogue x Bassike T-shirt was debuted by friends and family of Vogue Australia, tastemakers who exemplify the myriad ways the staple can (and should) be styled.
Among them are Miah Madden, Meg Mac and Cameron Stephens, who this year serve as the official faces of VAEFNO 2024 and will be making their way down to Sydney’s Pitt Street Mall to take part in the unmissable event on Thursday, October 24.
Officially kicking off at 12pm at Sydney’s Pitt Street Mall with the customary launch moment—led by Vogue Australia’s editorial director, Edwina McCann, and the Lord Mayor of Sydney, Clover Moore, and concluded with what is sure to be an unforgettable and energetic performance by aforementioned artist, Meg Mac—there is so much more to do, see and shop throughout the day.
At the top of the VAEFNO line-up is the always-hyped Vogue American Express Runway, which returns to bring us the very best of new season from leading Australian designers and brands.
Expect an expertly curated show sure to inspire your summer wardrobe, from the perfect pieces for balmy evening soirées and the trending resortwear to take on your end of year break.
As has become tradition, this presentation will shortly be followed by the American Express Shop Small runway, presented by Vogue Australia, which has become a beacon of burgeoning fashion talents to keep your eye on.
Also on the VAEFNO schedule are a number of must-see activations, from the Toblerone Never Square—get the chance to sample some special Toblerone Pralines as you discover a brand-new original design showcased on the iconic triangular pack as envisioned by one lucky local creative—to the American Express x Girls with Gems ‘Casa Greco’ pop-up, which will blend the very best of Mediterranean-inspired fashion, entertainment and food.
