DiDi driver’s alleged ‘disgusting’ act

Written by on November 2, 2024

A Melbourne DiDi driver has been arrested after allegedly performing a “disgusting” act while three women were in his car.

Kayela Nasalio had been enjoying a night out with her friends when the trio ordered a ride home outside a nightclub in Mickleham in north Melbourne last week.

During the trip, Ms Nasalio claimed the driver performed a lewd act while all three were inside the car.

The alleged incident was filmed by her friend – who was awake in the back seat – while the 20-year-old was asleep in the rideshare’s passenger seat.

“The driver was touching himself and looking at me,” Ms Nasalio claimed when she spoke exclusively to 7News.

“(It’s) absolutely disgusting, terrible, wrong in so many ways.”

Ms Nasalio said her friend didn’t raise the alarm out of fear the trio would get kicked out of the car and left “on the side of the road”.

“I honestly would’ve kicked him (the driver) out of his own car,” Ms Nasalio said.

In a statement, Victoria Police confirmed the man, 24, was arrested and charged by detectives from the Fawkner Sexual Offences and Child Abuse Investigation Team on Saturday.

“Police allege that the driver of a rideshare vehicle performed the act in the presence of three female passengers in the morning hours of Sunday, October 27,” a police spokeswoman said.

“It is alleged that the incident occurred on a trip somewhere between the Melbourne CBD and the northern suburbs.”

The man, from Broadmeadows, has been charged with sexual activity directed at another.

He will face Broadmeadows Magistrates’ Court on February 26 next year.

DiDi Australia has been contacted for comment.

In a statement provided to 7News, the company confirmed the driver had since been banned and reported to Safe Transport Victoria.

“The safety of the entire ridesharing community is always our top priority,” a spokesperson said.

“We will also work with law enforcement, should it conduct its own investigation.

“The behaviour demonstrated was inappropriate, and contrary to the values and standards of the platform.”
