A 17-year-old Tasmanian boy who died after a falling tree branch struck him has been remembered as a “beautiful young man” as his community rallies around his grieving loved ones.
Emergency services were called after reports the Malakai Revill had been felling trees with his father in Dover on the southwest coast of Tasmania when he was injured shortly after 4pm on Sunday.
Paramedics treated the teen after a falling branch had struck him during the incident, but sadly, he died at the scene.
His father received non-life-threatening injuries.
This week, a GoFundMe campaign organised by family friend Joanne Denehey-Shreeve has raised over $7,000 to assist the young man’s family.
“My goal of $5000 will be given to Malakai’s father who is going through an extremely hard time right now,” Ms Denehey-Shreeve wrote.
The target was reached and exceeded in just days with Ms Denehey-Shreeve praising the kindness of her community.
“To everyone who has participated and donated or shared my post, I would like to thank you on behalf of (the family),” she wrote in an update on Thursday.
“Most of all, for honouring a beautiful young man Malakai Revill, a truly gentle, kind soul and best friend you could wish for your child to have.
“I set this page up thinking It wouldn’t reach many people, I’m overwhelmed by everyone’s generosity and compassion for Malakai’s and his family.
“I feel thanking you all isn’t enough for making this happen. I’m so proud to live in a place that we support each other when we need it. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.”
