Aussies rush for chance to win $100m

Written by on August 22, 2024

One lucky Aussie could be holding the winning lotto ticket and score the $100m jackpot within hours.

The massive prize is up for grabs on Thursday, with the draw set for 9pm.

The Lott spokeswoman Anna Hobdell said up to half of all Aussie adults were expected to grab a ticket in the hopes they’ll win the top prize.

“As $100m is the biggest prize offered by any Australian lottery game in almost three months, we anticipate a rush across the country as Aussies vie for the chance to become the next Powerball multi-millionaire,” Ms Hobdell said.

“This is the time when office chatter turns into work syndicates, and everyone becomes a dreamer, plotting how they’d spend a share of the phenomenal $100m prize.”

The possibility of becoming a millionaire comes only months since the last $100m jackpot in May.

“The peak of sales was at 6.44pm on the day of the draw when more than 7,980 tickets were sold in a single minute,” Ms Hobdell said.

Ms Hobdell encouraged ticket holders to register their ticket to ensure they’re notified about their win immediately.

“We were ready and willing to reach out to the newly-minted millionaire right after the draw and give him a surprise of a lifetime, but his ticket wasn’t registered,” she said.

“By registering your ticket to a player card or online account, we can contact you straight after the draw should you win big on Thursday night.

“Be sure to take your phone off silent and pick up immediately if you see your phone light up with an incoming call on Thursday night.
