Retail giant cuts prices on 200 products

Written by on May 29, 2024

Coles has announced a sweep of price cuts for the next three months, part of a price drop campaign to help Australians struggling with cost-of-living pressures keep warm during the winter.

From today, the supermarket giant will cut prices on 200 products, from pantry staples to roast meat, bumping up the total number of products in its “Down Down” pricing discount category to 800.

“We’re committed to providing value across the products we know our customers love to buy and cook with through the winter months,” Coles chief commercial officer Anna Croft said.

“Cold evenings call for hearty meals and we’re lowering the cost of roast dinners with savings on roasting meats and our Australian grown potatoes – all down in price over the next three months to help stretch budgets further.

“Right now, our customers will find hundreds of products on Down Down pricing in store and online, as well as great value apples, avocados and lamb plus thousands of specials, changing every week.”

The price of beef blade roast will slide from $15/kg to $13/kg, a 13 per cent fall, a 500g pack of diced beef will fall from $11 to $10, a 9 per cent saving and a 500g pack of chicken mince will fall 15 per cent from $6.50 to $5.50.

Staples like bread and vegetables are also in line for a chop.

A white sourdough Vienna will fall to $6.50 from $7, a 7 per cent discount, and a 2kg pack of white washed potatoes will fall 47 per cent, moving from $7.50 to $4.

Other big discounts include the price of a Cadbury tub of 1.2L ice cream, which will fall 30 per cent from $10 to $7.

A 4L Omo Laundry Liquid will fall 40 per cent from $45 to $27.

Coles and rival Woolworths both have price drops running through to August.

Woolworths has reduced prices by an average 20 per cent on more than 450 products for its winter drop, which also runs through to August 27.
