The bodies of a man and woman have been discovered in Sydney’s west as police responded to reports of an assault.
Officers attended the Oxford St strip of shops in Cambridge Park about 9.40am on Saturday, locating the two bodies.
It’s understood the couple were the operators of Buzzy Bee’s Burger House, a family-run local take-away shop.
They have been identified as Hoa Tk Cien, 69, and Heang Kim Gau, 68, The Daily Telegraph reports.
Investigators remained at the scene on Sunday afternoon, with the area cordoned off by police tape.
Several people were seen in tears nearby.
Local resident James Savic said news of the couple’s death was shocking, describing them as “just really lovely people”.
“I only live a few streets away so I go in there all the time; they’re very polite, very nice,” he said.
“What is this world coming to? I really hope they work out what happened.”
Mr Savic said he’d overheard a police helicopter hovering overhead for more than an hour on Saturday morning.
“I’ve been living here five years… It’s mainly filled with a lot of elderly people, you’d never think anything like this would happen,” he said.
A New South Wales Police Force spokesman confirmed an investigation was underway, but the couple’s identities have yet to be confirmed.
“They have not been formally identified but are believed to be a man and woman – aged in their 70s,” he said.
“A crime scene was established and police commenced inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the incident, assisted by the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad.”
Police have called on anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
Local residents have taken to social media to express their shock at the loss of two community stalwarts, with one say the couple were planning to retire soon.
“l pray the people who stabbed them come to justice very quickly! Their sons are in shock and so devastated right now,” one woman wrote.
Another said; “Cambo won’t be the same without them 2 been going there for 20 years.”
More to come.
