Third man charged over wild police chase

Police have charged a third man over his alleged role in a wild pursuit in Sydney’s west during which an officer was stabbed.

Police were called to Hill End Road, Doonside responding to report five men were fighting about 12.30am on Friday.

It’s alleged that four men attempted to drive away in a hatchback, with police launching a pursuit.

The chase ended when the car hit a power pole on Power Street, with four men allegedly attempting to flee the scene.

Police have alleged a 20-year-old man stabbed a male constable on his left side underneath his ribs and once on in his back.

The constable was taken to hospital in a critical but stable condition before he was later released.

The incident was described as “abhorrent” by police on Friday.

Three men, aged 18, 20 and 21, were arrested and taken to Blacktown Police Station.

Assistant Commissioner Gavin Wood alleged the men have some links to gang crime and said they were known to police

A 20-year-old man was charged with wound police officer executing duty, wound person with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, use offensive weapon to prevent lawful detention, custody of knife in public place and assault police officer in execution of duty.

He was refused bail and fronted Blacktown Local Court on Friday.

An 18-year-old man was arrested and charged with custody of knife in public place, stalk/intimidate, armed with intent to commit indictable offence and affray.

He was refused bail and also faced the Blacktown Local Court on Friday.

A 21-year-old man was also arrested and taken to Westmead Hospital on Friday.

He was later released and taken to Blacktown Police Station where he was charged with affray, being armed with intent to commit an indictable offence, custody of a knife in a public place and intimidation.

He was refused bail to front Parramatta Local Court on Saturday.

Police are still trying to identify a further two men and anyone with information has been urged to come forward.
