50 page reason for alleged killer cop case delay

Written by on November 19, 2024

A former police officer accused of shooting his ex-boyfriend and his partner before dumping their bodies at a remote NSW property will spend the new year behind bars on remand, a court has been told.

Beau Lamarre-Condon appeared before Downing Centre Local Court on Tuesday charged with murdering his ex-partner Jesse Baird and his boyfriend Luke Davies at Mr Baird’s Paddington home.

Police allege the 29-year-old killed the couple with his police-issued firearm before dumping their bodies in surfboard bags at a remote property near Goulburn, in the NSW southern tablelands.

More than eight months after he was charged, lawyer Alex Curnick applied before the court on Tuesday for Mr Lamarre-Condon’s case to be adjourned until next year amid multiple delays.

The court was told the matter had been delayed because Mr Lamarre-Condon was now being represented by solicitors from NSW Legal Aid, as well as the “availability of a forensic psychologist”.

A 50-page affidavit was tendered in support of the delay, with Magistrate Daniel Covington noting a “lengthy delay” was required as a senior public defender and duty counsel were being briefed.

The Crown prosecutor did not oppose the adjournment which will see Mr Lamarre-Condon return before the court on February 4, noting “a further delay is foreshadowed in the affidavit”.

Mr Lamarre-Condon has spent the past eight months behind bars on remand over the alleged murder of Mr Baird, a Network 10 presenter, and Mr Davies, a beloved Qantas flight attendant.

In early statements, police alleged the killings followed “predatory” behaviour by Constable Lamarre-Condon, who had been in a brief relationship with Mr Baird in the months before his death.

Police allege Mr Lamarre-Condon planned to kill Mr Baird, and that Mr Davies was collateral damage. He was dismissed by NSW Police after being charged.

Mr Lamarre-Condon was due to enter pleas earlier this month; however, his lawyer John Walford revealed he was officially withdrawing after months of representing Mr Lamarre-Condon.
