‘My relationship with Alan soured five years ago’: 2GB’s Ray Hadley claims about Alan Jones

Former colleague of Alan Jones and departing 2GB host Ray Hadley has spoken cryptically about his “soured” relationship with the broadcaster, who now faces 24 charges relating to alleged historical assaults.
Jones, 83, was arrested at his three-storey home in Circular Quay by specialist detectives at about 7.45am on Monday and taken to Day Street Police Station, where he received bail and was seen leaving, dressed in a green tracksuit and leaning on a wooden walking stick, in the early evening.
Police will allege there were eight victims, and 24 charges have been laid in relation to alleged incidents between 2001 and 2019.
Police will allege the youngest victim was 17 years old.
Detectives from the State Crime Command Child Abuse Squad established Strike Force Bonnefin in March to investigate numerous alleged indecent assault and sexual touching incidents between 2001 and 2019.
During Monday’s edition of The Ray Hadley Morning Show, Hadley said that shortly after news of Jones’ arrest broke, his relationship with the former colleague “soured five years ago” but stopped short of explaining why.
“Obviously, I worked alongside Alan Jones for three decades but as I’ve mentioned … my relationship with Alan soured five years ago and I can’t discuss why it soured now, even though it was reported earlier, given that there are allegations, serious allegations against him,” Hadley said.
“My main concern at the moment is for the alleged victims who are obviously seeking justice in relation to these matters.”
He asked listeners to understand the need for him to be careful and his obligation to report on matters accurately, as the case is likely to be presented in court soon.
“Editorial comment … has to be guided by legalities,” he said.
“I hope you all understand that.”
Hadley, who announced earlier this month he was departing 2GB, went on to slam “narcs” writing into the station accusing him of quitting his job because of Jones’ alleged indiscretions.
“This had nothing to do with my decision. Nothing whatsoever,” Hadley said.
“It’s completely devoid of the decision I’ve taken.
“At some time in the future those reasons will become patently obvious to everyone, but in the meantime, I’ll say no more.”
Hadley previously addressed allegations against Jones live on air in late 2023, saying he spoke to a former 2GB employee “some time ago” about an alleged interaction with Jones.
“I readily agreed having known this person for some time, but I had no idea what he was wanting to talk about. He told me his story at the time and I was not aware of those circumstances until that day,” he said.
“In the next 40 minutes I sat silently as he went through the (claims), uninterrupted only by his tears as he tried to compose himself.”
At the time, Hadley said his relationship with Jones was “an unusual one”.
“We’ve had many battles and some good times but from the day I spoke to Bradley (Source’s alias) our relationship was severed,” he said.

“Given that it was already strained over other matters not related to the allegation made by Bradley.”
Jones hosted the number one rated breakfast show on 2GB from 2002 to 2020, and was followed by Hadley on air at 9am.
