Alan Jones arrested over indecent assault allegations

Written by on November 18, 2024

Alan Jones has been arrested by police over the allegations the radio broadcaster and former Wallabies coach indecently assaulted, groped or inappropriately touched young men spanning two decades.

The 83-year-old was arrested at his three-storey home in Circular Quay by specialist detectives about 7.45am on Monday and taken to Day Street Police Station.

Detectives from the State Crime Command Child Abuse Squad established Strike Force Bonnefin in March to investigate numerous alleged indecent assault and sexual touching incidents between 2001 and 2019.

“Following extensive inquiries, about 7.45am today, strike force detectives executed a search warrant at a unit in Circular Quay where they arrested an 83-year-old man,” a statement from NSW Police read.

“The search warrant is underway.”

The accusations come after the Sydney Morning Herald revealed accusations of indecent assault dating back the 1960s.

It’s alleged that while working as a teacher at Brisbane Grammar in 1965, Jones allegedly put his hands on a student’s genitalia after being struck in the groin by a cricket ball.

Another student alleged Jones put his hands down the student’s shorts while working at The King’s School in Parramatta, Sydney.

Jones, who is most famous for his 35 years as a radio broadcaster, was accused of repeatedly indecently assaulting men during his tenure at 2GB.

One former employee accused the radio star of “grabbing” his genitalia while the man was driving from station’s studio in Pyremont to Jones’ apartment in Circular Quay, which overlooks the Sydney Opera House and is dubbed “The Toaster”.

The former employee, who was 20 at the time of the alleged assault, also accused the radio host of exposing himself in his apartment and kissing the former employee in an elevator.

Several other accusations have been made against Jones, with several men alleging he assaulted them in his Circular Quay apartment.

The radio broadcaster has denied the allegations, releasing a video in March responding to the accusations.

“The get-Jones campaign is nothing new in my life,” he said per ADH TV.

“I am not going to dwell, here, on the allegations made about me other than to say that I refute them entirely and the inferences associated with them.” Jones has not commenced any legal action.

No charges have been laid.

Jones, who hosted his hit breakfast show on 2GB for two decades, retired from broadcast in May 2020 for health reasons.

He then began hosting The Alan Jones Program on Sky News Australia but departed Sky News in November 2021.
