NRL star’s $130k Bali baby shock

Dally M medallist Nicho Hynes is among a host of early contributors to a GoFundMe page set up for Cronulla teammate Jesse Ramien to get his newborn son home from Bali after the baby was born six weeks premature.
The page was set up by the partner of another teammate for Ramien and his fiancee, Shell, who travelled to Bali for the wedding of fellow Sharks player Brenton Nikora.
Ramien, who has played 145 games for the Sharks, and his wife got full medical clearance to travel to Bali and obtained all the necessary insurance.
But the costs in looking after baby Teo have escalated beyond what it would cover.
In an emotional plea Shauvan Hunt declared that after an emergency caesarean was needed to deliver the baby boy, who remains in an incubator at the Siloam Hospital the costs to get him home could exceed $130,000.
“After just 3 days of being in Bali, Shell went into early labour and despite the doctors and nurses best efforts at Siloam hospital Denpasar to stop the contractions, Shell ended up having to go in for an emergency C-section,” she wrote on the page calling out for donations.
“Unfortunately she had to be put under anaesthesia, so she woke up without her baby in her arms, not knowing his fate.
“The hospital resuscitated Teo for 5 minutes until he started breathing where he was then rushed to NICU. Shell and Jesse weren’t able to meet their baby until 9am the following morning.
“The insurance doesn’t cover Teo’s medical costs and the bill is already exceeding $20,000
“Shell is recovering from her emergency C-section and has been discharged from the hospital, although paying to stay with her baby boy.
“They are finding it hard to communicate with the doctors and nurses and need to be back home with their baby boy in our medical system but, because Teo is not yet breathing on his own, that would require an emergency medical flight which will be upwards of $130,000.”
It’s understood the club, the NRL and the Australian Embassy are involved in trying to get the Ramiens and their baby home.
