Dirt bike ‘hoon’ sent flying in wild crash

Dashcam footage has captured the moment a dirt bike collides with a car after speeding into a Canberra roundabout, sending the rider flying into the air before quickly leaving the scene.
Clips of the incident were shared by Dashcam Owners Australia on Facebook.
It occurred on Saturday afternoon on Tharwa Drive in Conder in the city’s south, at the roundabout with Box Hill Avenue.
“Dirt bike with no plates [speeds] into a roundabout hitting a car and then it runs off, we then pulled over to give this footage to the people who were hit and make sure they were alright,” the video submitters wrote.
In the video, a person riding a white dirt bike is seen speeding past traffic and attempting to go straight through the roundabout, failing to give way to a dark compact SUV turning left.
The bike slams into the side of the car, and the rider flies onto the roof. He quickly picks up his bike and rides away.
ACT Police has been contacted for comment.
The video has been viewed more than 235,000 times on Facebook.
One commenter said it “gives motorcycle riders a bad name”.
“The 1 per cent always do, just like the 1 per cent of cyclists who refuse to ride in line on the left of the road or in a bicycle lane,” he wrote.
Many complained that dirt bike riders driving dangerously were a growing problem.

“This is every day. Dirt bike riders unregistered and dangerous,” one wrote.
Another said, “We’ve got two or three bikes that hoon around Gosnells at all hours of the day and night. No plates, excessively speeding, wearing balaclavas, no helmets.”
A third added, “I live in St Marys, we constantly have dirt bike riders racing around backstreets, no helmets, scooting in and out of traffic and in the nature zones where it specifies no trespassing.”
