Brittany Higgins drops personal bombshell

Written by on July 14, 2024

Brittany Higgins has announced she is pregnant with her first child on the eve of her defamation battle against former boss Linda Reynolds.

The former political adviser has revealed on social media that she is expecting her first child with her husband David Sharaz who she married on the Gold Coast in June.

Ms Higgins shared the news with her 60,000 followers on Sunday night from France that she’s about to become a mum.

“Can’t wait to meet you! Beyond excited to welcome a new member to our little family. Your parents are already obsessed with you and you aren’t even here yet,” she wrote.

But a shadow now hangs over Ms Higgins’ French home as she prepares to return to Australia for her defamation fight with Linda Reynolds who is seeking to overturn the trust that bought the property.

The matter is set to return to the WA Supreme Court on Monday ahead of the defamation trial that is set down for August.

Last month, the WA Supreme Court has agreed to accommodate a request not to interfere with Brittany Higgins’s wedding, as she fights to protect a trust set up in her name from a defamation action brought on by her former employer, Senator Linda Reynolds.

Senator Reynolds is suing Ms Higgins and her fiancée David Sharaz for defamation over a series of social media posts.

The posts related to Senator Reynolds’s conduct after Ms Higgins was raped in Parliament House in 2019 by her former colleague Bruce Lehrmann.

Senator Reynolds has also lodged a separate action seeking details of a trust, set up two months after Ms Higgins received her settlement from the federal government, over fears it could be used to protect her investments from creditors.

If Senator Reynolds wins her defamation case against Ms Higgins she wants to be able to overturn the trust to ensure she can pay damages.

Ms Higgins’ lawyer Leon Zwier argued in May that with his client getting married in early June, it was difficult to get instructions in the lead up to, and after, the wedding.

Mr Zwier requested more time to “(allow) Ms Higgins to focus on her wedding”.

Brittany Higgins tied the knot with David Sharaz just last month in a fairytale couture gown by Australian designer Paolo Sebastian.

The bride was photographed wearing a designer dress, which retails for up to $30,000, at the wedding at The Valley Estate in the Currumbin Valley on the Gold Coast.

The wedding dress featured a long sleeve lace bodice of delicate lace and a voluminous tulle skirt. She was accompanied by matron of honour Emma Webster.

The happy couple celebrated with a small group of close friends and family only in Queensland. There are no politicians or celebrity guests in attendance.

Former Sex Discrimination Commissioner Kate Jenkins, who spearheaded landmark reforms to ensure safe and respectful work environments in Commonwealth Parliamentary workplaces in the wake of Brittany Higgins’ campaign for reform was invited.

Television producer Judi McCrossin, who has optioned the rights to Ms Higgins’ unpublished memoir with an eye to making a telemovie, was also in attendance with her husband Stephen Hall, a regular cast member on Shaun Micallef’s Mad As Hell, who plays political spokesman Darius Horsham.

“Join us in making unforgettable memories,” the invitation said. “Come for the love, stay for the party.”

At about 6.30am David Sharaz took to Instagram to post his first text with his future wife way back in 2020.

As he recounted the story, he accidentally sent a photo of Ms Higgins from her Instagram account back to her, when he was trying to send it to a friend.

Commenting on a photo of Ms Higgins by the famous ‘budget tree’ in a Parliament House courtyard, Mr Sharaz wrote: “Love this photo. But mainly the tree.”

In the caption, Mr Sharaz wrote: “Accidentally sent a girl I had a crush on … photo of herself.”

“Few years later we’re getting married! Rom-coms do exist.”

When Mr Sharaz proposed at the top of the Byron Bay lighthouse on New Year’s Eve last year, photos of the couple lined the staircase to the top, where they were photographed by paparazzi.

“I didn’t want to enter another year without you knowing that I want to spend all my years with you … I’m the luckiest guy in the world,” he said on Instagram.

“I’m just a guy, kneeling in front of a girl, asking her to marry him.”
