Wild dashcam footage has captured the alleged moment a couple lead police on a massive chase through Melbourne, with the pair heard on the footage bragging about their driving before the pursuit comes to a crashing halt.
Victoria Police confirmed two people had been charged over the collision in Parkville last Monday, after an allegedly stolen Mercedes slammed into a Ford Ranger in the intersection of Royal Pde and Gatehouse St in Parkville about 9am.
Dashcam footage – posted to the Facebook page Dash Cam Owners Australia – allegedly reveals the dramatic moment the man and woman attempt to flee.
In the video, the couple allegedly begin their evasion in a car park as police deploy stop sticks to slow the vehicle down.
An officer is heard shouting “get out of the f**king car” before the couple floor it.
The vehicle drives off while a woman is repeatedly heard shouting: “Go, go go!”
She continues with “go baby go” and “just go” as the vehicle turns into traffic.
The man is then heard asking “how’s that for driving darling?” while the vehicle allegedly runs through red lights and drives on the wrong side of the road, almost missing several pedestrians along the way.
In the dashcam, the woman is heard saying “get us away” as the man notes they have a flat tyre, suggesting they “get out and run”.
“We can’t just ditch it here, they know what we look like,” the woman is heard saying.
Later, the vehicle allegedly runs a red light before smashing into the Ford Ranger, spinning to a stop and crashing into another parked vehicle.
The couple then allegedly attempt to run from police.
In a statement, Victoria Police said the Mercedes was allegedly stolen from St Kilda a day prior.
“The driver of the Mercedes, a 40-year-old man, was transported to hospital under police guard with minor injuries,” the spokeswoman said.
“His passenger, a 28-year-old woman, was also transported to hospital under police guard for observation.
“The 53-year-old male driver of the Ford Ranger was not injured.”
The man has since been charged with reckless conduct endanger life, reckless conduct endanger serious injury, theft of motor vehicle, drive manner dangerous, drive while disqualified, careless driving and enter intersection on red traffic light.
He will face Melbourne Magistrates Court on August 9.
His female passenger has been charged with theft of motor vehicle.
She has been bailed to appear at Melbourne Magistrates Court
